Beautiful images of Splachnum capsules, Barry - I especially love the yellow (spore-covered?) peristomes. The wavy setae are rather odd, and are not something I'd consider typical of Splachnum in the field.
Wobbly setae are the result of turning the pot on the windowsill in an attempt to stop them inclining - couldn't risk putting them out in our slug-infested garden until they matured. I was quite surprised how large they eventually became. It would interesting to compared them with those left in situ - there were a lot of them so shouldn't be too difficult to relocate.
