Rhodobryum roseum at Kenfig

During a Glamorgan Fungus Group meeting on Saturday I came across a pretty big patch of Rhodobryum roseum in dune grassland at Kenfig NNR.  There were several hundred rosettes within about 2 square metres (far more than I've ever seen before) so I thought it was definitely worth a pause from the fungi to note the grid reference (SS7885681600) in case it's a new patch.

  1. Very nice Peter, yours is a new patch. The only one on file for Kenfig is a 30x30cm patch on the side of low sand dune SS7954480995, recorded by Sam in 2011.

  2. Great stuff, a species I'm still to catch up with.

  3. We have a few sites in Brecknock ... Mainly on the Carb Limestone and one from ORS. We need to find it fruiting now ... Only south Wales fruiting material I have seen was an old collection from near Carmarthen.

  4. That sounds like a notable population of a beautiful moss. Great find Peter.

  5. Peter.... while we're on the subject of fungi (oblique link!), can you encourage local fungi lovers to use the Gower Wildlife Blog (which is administered by Barry) to post and comment on local fungi. Don't let the the 'Gower' tag put you off, the area covered by the blog is very wide and could be stretched to cover all of Glamorgan if that's OK with Barry.

  6. I don't have a problem with that, though note there is an East Glamorgan site that's been up and running for a few years
